Tom Brady Announces Retirement From NFL Football
One of the greatest careers in sports history is coming to an end. Tom Brady announced his retirement Wednesday morning in a social media post.
"Good morning guys," Brady said in the posted video. "I'll get to the point right away. I'm retiring, for good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time so when I woke this morning I figured I'd just press record and let you guys know first. It won't be long winded. You only get one super emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year. Really thank you guys so much, to every single one of you, for supporting me. My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors. I could go on forever, there's too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn't change a thing. Love you all."
Brady played 23 seasons in the NFL and led his team to a record 10 Super Bowl appearances with a record seven victories. During his career, he completed 64.3% of his passes, threw for 89,214 yards, 649 touchdowns and 212 interceptions in the regular season. In the playoffs, he completed 62.5% of his passes, threw for 13,400 yards, 88 touchdowns and 40 interceptions.
The first 20 seasons of his career were with the New England Patriots, where he appeared in nine Super Bowls and won six. The last three were with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he appeared in one Super Bowl and won it. Brady was a five time Super Bowl MVP, 15 time Pro Bowler, three time NFL MVP, and three time First Team All-Pro.
Brady retired during last offseason as well, but this one feels different especially given how his play declined during the 2022 campaign. Still, he is one of the most decorated and accomplished athletes of this generation and in history. Hats off to a tremendous career.
