Syracuse Cruises Past Albany to Remain Unbeaten
To say the game was all Orange would have been an understatement. The #2 Syracuse Orange dismantled the Great Danes of UAlbany in a blowout 22-5 victory.
Right from the start the Orange controlled the tempo of the entire game, putting on a show on offense. The Cuse scored five goals in the first six minutes, three of which were from graduate student Megan Carney. After a ten-goal first quarter in which the Orange averaged 1.3 goals per minute and neither UAlbany goalkeeper saved a single shot on goal, the game was already sealed.
The clock kept running for the rest of the game - save for penalties and timeouts - as the Orange increased their lead with every offensive opportunity. Ten players found the back of the net and seven scored multiple goals on the day, sharing the ball effectively and exhausting the Great Dane defense.
The Meg-Show ruled supreme in the Dome with a combined eight goals and 14 points between Carney and Tyrell, with Olivia Adamson and Emma Ward providing plenty of assists for the Orange offense.
The Orange defense had a lockdown game, with only two goals allowed on nine shots from the Great Danes. Sweitzer provided six saves on an otherwise quiet day on her end of the field, while Kate Mashewske won 14 draw controls to keep the ball in the Orange’s sticks.
UAlbany’s Shonly Wallace and Ava Poupard did what they could against Sweitzer and Hower in net and the stalwart Syracuse defense, but their three combined goals on five shots were not enough to climb back into reach.
UAlbany falls to 2-3 and prepares to welcome the Raiders of Colgate University on Saturday. Syracuse continues their undefeated season at 5-0 and prepares for a Sunday matchup against the Virginia Tech Hokies, their second ACC opponent of the year.
