Behind six-point performances from Megan Carney and Meaghan Tyrrell, Syracuse ran their in-state foes out of the Dome Friday afternoon. The Orange downed the Bearcats 17-10.

As per usual, Carney and Tyrrell proved to be the true core of Syracuse’s offense, with both scoring and creating shots for their teammates. Among the other players who found themselves in the scoring column was one of Syracuse’s four Tewaarton Award Watchlist members, Emma Ward.

On the other end of the field, goalkeeper Delaney Sweitzer continued her elite level of play, making eight saves and allowing just four goals. With her efforts in ‘Cuse’s win over the Bearcats, Sweitzer has now recorded 32 saves in just three games.

Syracuse looked like a well-oiled machine, and it showed in the numbers. 11 different players found the net for the Orange and Head Coach Kayla Treanor was able to play “pretty much” everyone on her roster.

“The girls are playing really unselfish, and trying to find that extra pass,” Treanor said following her team’s dominant performance. “Today’s a great day where you can play a lot of people and different people contributed, so I’m happy to see that.”

Megan Carney was again outstanding for the Orange. The graduate attack netted four for the Orange, including her third goal scored in the first 90 seconds in as many games. She said that the style of her team’s offensive play is what makes it possible for her to score with the frequency she does.

“I think our offense this year is just a lot of off-ball movement,” Carney said. “I have great teammates playing beside me that just feed me the ball, and it’s a perfect pass. Just being able to be open for them, it just seems to work out.”

Sweitzer also mentioned her team’s consistency on offense, noting that she was ready to face a Bearcats squad that would shoot frequently. The defense in front of her managed to keep Binghamton a comfortable distance from the net, limiting their offensive productivity for the vast majority of the game.

Coach Treanor made the decision to pull her starters in the final few minutes of the game, which allowed Binghamton to net six goals against a less experienced Orange lineup, including goalkeeper Tate Paulson, who allowed six goals in the few minutes she played.

Treanor called this a “good win” for her team and expressed her pleasure with what she saw on the field. Her squad remains undefeated this season and sits at #2 in the national rankings, second only to defending champions UNC.

Syracuse will hit the road this weekend, heading to Pittsburgh to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers. The game will begin at noon.
