Syracuse Men's Lacrosse Will Face Nine Teams That Finished in Top 20 Last Season
The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team enters the 2024 season ranked ninth according to USA Lacrosse. There will be plenty of opportunities to catch the Orange in action as their first seven games will be played at the JMA Wireless Dome. For the regular season, Syracuse only has five games on the road. Syracuse kicks off their season against the Vermont Catamounts for the second time. Last season, the Orange faced the Catamounts for the first game of the 2023 season and defeated them 7-5.
This upcoming season, Syracuse will face 15 teams and nine of them finished in the top 20 last year. The teams that finished in the top 20 include: Maryland, Utah, Army, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Notre Dame, Cornell, North Carolina, and Virginia. Other teams on their schedule outside of the top 20 include: Vermont, Colgate, Manhattan, High Point, Delaware, and Hobart. Unlike the Syracuse women's lacrosse team, the toughest stretch for the men's team will be later in the season. The toughest stretch the Orange will face will be in late March. Syracuse will face the defending national champions, Notre Dame. Which then will be followed by Cornell, North Carolina, and Virginia. All of these teams finished in the top 10 last year, aside from North Carolina finishing at 15. Three out of these four teams are ACC matchups. It will be very important moving into the ACC championship and NCAA tournament to defeat these opponents to secure a spot.
The ACC is a strong conference for men's lacrosse as the top 3 teams were Notre Dame, Duke, and Virginia. Notre Dame ended up defeating Duke in the national championship 13-9. The Orange will face the Fighting Irish on March 30. In South Bend, Indiana and face Duke the week prior in the JMA Wireless Dome. Last season the Orange lost to Duke in overtime 14-13 at home. Syracuse also fell to Notre Dame 12-20 at home, and to Virginia 12-19 on the road. This upcoming season, these three matchups will be crucial as they are looking for payback and to shake things up in the ACC. The Orange have their home opener in the JMA Wireless Dome on Feb 3.
