Syracuse, now ranked #1 in the nation, kept the machine running against #6 Stony Brook, securing a 16-11 win over the Seawolves. In a chess match between two mastermind coaches, the Orange showed the visitors to the Dome once again that they reign supreme on both ends of the ball.

The first half had Stony Brook come out swinging, going up 2-0 in the first three minutes. This two-goal deficit would be the largest deficit the Orange have faced all season, and despite the Seawolves keeping a foothold on the first quarter, a back-and-forth affair came to an end in the final five minutes of the half, with Syracuse scoring four to advance past Stony Brook.

Once the Orange took the lead in the second quarter, they never looked back, keeping Stony Brook out of reach and securing the second top ten victory in a week.

The usual suspects shone for the Syracuse offense once again, with Megan Carney notching six scores and increasing her season total to 40. Emma Tyrell provided four more goals and Emma Ward once again set up a majority of the Syracuse goals, recording seven assists. Both teammates and coach Kayla Treanor commended Ward for her contributions to yet another victory.

“She was unreal behind the net,” Carney said. "She just knows where everyone is and where they’re going to be and when they’re going to be there.”

“She’s a really amazing offensive player,” Treanor said. "She has a real gift of feeding the ball, she really understand the offense and what we’re trying to do.”

Syracuse’s defense once again recorded a solid performance, frequently forcing the Seawolves to tick down the shot clock and take rushed or ill-advised shots. Delaney Sweitzer saved eight of those shots and the defense forced five turnovers, capitalizing on the Stony Brook mistakes.

Perhaps the most significant improvement for the Orange was Olivia Adamson, who has taken over draw control responsibilities for the injured Kate Mashewske. For the first time since Mashweske’s injury, the Orange won the draw control battle, winning 21 of the 31 draws on the day.

“All the credit to the coaches and the circle girls for having my back today, and trusting me to go for it,” Adamson said. “It’s definitely been tricky, but our coaches did a great job having my back and enabling me to get a lot of draw controls tonight.”

Stony Brook’s offense was led significantly by Morgan Mitchell, who led all scorers with seven goals on the night. Six of those goals came in the first half, and the Stony Brook offense was only able to score a total of three second half scores, eventually coming up short in the contest.

Syracuse advances their undefeated season and goes to 10-0, one of only three undefeated teams in the nation. They will prepare to travel to Louisville and face another ACC opponent on Saturday. Stony Brook falls to 5-2 and will play Elon on Saturday, their second conference opponent in the CAA.
