Three members of the Syracuse women's lacrosse team were named USA Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans. Goaltender Delaney Sweitzer was named first team and Emma Tyrrell and Emma Ward were named second team. Sweizter also received preseason goalie of the year.

There are high hopes for Sweitzer this year as she closed out her senior year with many accolades. She finished her 2023 season with 185 saves with a career high of 15 saves at North Carolina. Sweizter was ranked eighth in save percentage (.505) and also received IWLCA and ACC goalie of the year.

She was also named first team All-American by the IWLCA, Inside Lacrosse, and USA Lacrosse Magazine. Sweitzer started all 12 games and had 10 or more saves in eight games. It is safe to say that Sweitzer is a brick wall.

Unfortunately, both Tyrrell sisters will not be back for the 2024 season but Emma will return for her fifth year. Last season she was named third team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. The midfielder recorded a career high of 52 goals and 68 points with 16 assists. Emma Tyrrell had a career high of seven goals against Johns Hopkins.

Emma Ward, the five foot two attacker, responded after coming off a season ending injury her sophomore year. Last season Ward ranked third in the nation for assists with 56 and fourth in assists per game averaging almost 3 per game. She had a season high of five goals against Clemson. Ward finished her junior year with 38 goals and 56 assists recording 94 points.

Seven players from the 2023 season will not be returning. This includes Meaghan Tyrrell, Megan Carney, Sierra Cockerille, Tessa Queri, Acacia Connor, Kimber Hower, and Jordan Diblasie.

Aside from Sweizter, Tyrrell, and Ward, the Orange have many returners for their upcoming season. Kate Mashewske returns with the Orange for her fifth year. Last season she started the first seven games until she suffered a season ending injury. Prior to her injury she recorded 70 draw controls and recorded 10 or more draw controls in three matchups.

Mashewske ranked second in Syracuse's draw control career leader list with 343 draw controls. She is only the second player in Syracuse history to surpass 300 draw controls. Another player to watch, especially on the draw is attacker Olivia Adamson. She finished last season with 30 goals, 21 assists, and 107 draw controls.

On the defensive end, Katie Goodale is someone to look out for. She led the team in caused turnovers with 27. Goodale had 63 draw controls and 27 ground balls.

The Orange welcomed seven freshmen to the 2024 season and two walk-ons. The seven freshmen include Kaci Benoit, Alexa Vogelman, Carlie Desimone, Ashlee Volpe, Ella Blesi, Izzy Lahah, and Joely Caramelli.

Out of the eight freshmen, four were named on the power 100 freshman from inside lacrosse. Vogelman, Benoit, Volpe, and Caramelli were mentioned.

After four years at Delaware State University, the Orange welcomed walk-on graduate student Gwenna Gentle. She finished her career at DSU with 55 goals, 9 assists, and 54 points. Gentle also had 106 draw controls and 24 caused turnovers.

Another walk on is freshman Bella Abbott. She is from Kennesaw, Georgia where she attended Mount Paran Christian School.

The Orange have many veterans but their team will also consist of a lot of newcomers. Their season begins in a little over two weeks where the team will travel with Evanston, Illinois to take on the Wildcats.
