Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse Ranked #1 in Latest Poll

The Orange moved up to claim the nation’s top spot.

Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse Ranked #1 in Latest Poll /

Syracuse women’s lacrosse is ranked number one in the country in the latest ILWomen/IWLCA poll. It is the second time the Orange have been ranked as the nation’s top team in the coaches poll. Syracuse is up from being ranked two for the last several weeks due to North Carolina’s 13-9 loss to Northwestern. The Wildcats, who the Orange beat in the season opener, moved up to second in the poll while the Tar Heels dropped to third. Despite Syracuse beating Northwestern earlier this season, the Wildcats still earned five first place votes to Syracuse’s 19. The entire top 10 is as follows:

1. Syracuse
2. Northwestern
3. North Carolina
4. Denver
5. James Madison
6. Stony Brook
7. Boston College
8. Florida
9. Loyola
10. Maryland

Syracuse’s next opponent is Stony Brook, who the Orange face on Wednesday in the JMA Wireless Dome. That game is slated for an 8:00 p.m. start.

The Orange is off to its best start in program history with a 9-0 record. Five of Syracuse’s win came against teams ranked in the last top 25 with three coming against those in the top 10. Of Syracuse’s seven remaining games, six are against teams either currently ranked or in the others receiving votes category.

EXPERIENCE Mike McAllister has been covering Syracuse basketball, football and recruiting for more than a decade. Mike's career started with his own free blog as a way to vent following sporting events. Shortly thereafter, a network of basketball sites called Coast 2 Coast Hoops asked him to run their Syracuse site. That site was called Nation of Orange, and Mike quickly established it as a go-to for Syracuse fans. After running Nation of Orange for several months, a position with the Syracuse site on the Scout network became available. After one year as the recruiting expert with Cuse Nation, he was named the publisher. Mike oversaw the transition from Scout to 247Sports, and ran the site on that network for years. Presented with the opportunity to join one of the biggest names in the sports journalism industry, Sports Illustrated, Mike jumped at the chance. All Syracuse was started from scratch by Mike and the Fan Nation team. It has now become a staple for Orange fans of various sports. Mike has broken news on recruiting, Syracuse basketball and football team information and has established himself as the top recruiting inside in the market.
