Blast From the Past: Syracuse Back in Pursuit of Willie Tyler
Syracuse football is recruiting a familiar name in Rutgers transfer offensive lineman Willie Tyler, sources confirmed. Tyler entered the transfer portal after spending the 2022 season at Rutgers. Tyler has visited the Orange recently and is reportedly looking to make a decision by the end of the month. Per 247Sports, his top five includes Arizona State, Louisville, Mississippi State, Syracuse and Temple. He is expected to visit all five schools before making a decision.
Tyler's journey is an interesting one. As a highly touted recruit out of Iowa Western Community College, Tyler signed with Texas as a junior college prospect. After not playing in two seasons, Tyler entered the transfer portal. He originally committed to Syracuse, but changed his mind and enrolled at Louisiana-Monroe.
After a strong season there, he re-entered the portal looking to play at the power five level. Syracuse offered last offseason as well, but Tyler chose to go to Rutgers. He started at tackle for the Scarlet Knights during the 2022 campaign and is now looking for a new home. Tyler is listed at 6-6, 320 pounds and has played both tackle positions during his college career. He practiced as an interior lineman at Rutgers as well.
The most recent addition for Syracuse out of the portal was West Florida linebacker Khalib Gilmor, who committed last week.
