One of Syracuse basketball's top targets in the 2025 recruiting class is guard Jerry Easter. The Orange was one of Easter's first offers. All Syracuse caught up with Easter's dad, Jerry Easter Sr., to discuss his recruitment and interest in the Orange. That includes a connection to the program.

"When Syracuse offered it was last year when he was playing on Adidas," Easter Sr. said. "They saw one of his games, liked the way he played and offered after the game. It was awesome. I love Syracuse, he loves Syracuse. One of my best friends, who is like Jerry's uncle, is Derrick Coleman. So when that offer came about, he was blown away."

Easter is currently considered a top 50 prospect, rated four stars by 247Sports, On3 and Rivals. On3 has Easter ranked 30th, Rivals 33rd and 247Sports 48th. The 6-3 guard has been having a stellar summer, playing up a level with the U17 All Ohio squad in the EYBL, his first on that circuit. He is averaging 15.3 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game through the first two sessions.

"It's been awesome," Easter Sr. said. "The EYBL is like no other. I liked the Adidas circuit we were on, but the EYBL is different. I think we're about to get offers from Kentucky, LSU, Florida State and Marquette."

This summer is going to be a busy one for Easter, who will continue to play AAU ball while also working to find a new school as he is moving on from Emmanuel Christian in order to find a higher level of competition. Still, the plan is to take some visits including Syracuse.

"We're trying to figure out how to go see Syracuse," Easter Sr. said. "We're trying to figure it out because his scheduled is so booked up with school, courses, and now we're trying to find another school because he's not going to be back to the school he was at. We're trying to figure out the timing. Now you've unlimited official visits so it's crazy. For our first visit, we're trying to see if we can see Syracuse."

Easter has a strong early relationship with the Syracuse coaching staff.

"Great communication," Easter Sr. said. "Been going back and forth with the guys. I know the head coach, he retired. We've been talking to coach McNamara. (Boeheim) has been there, he's Syracuse to the heart so Jerry was kind of disappointed when he left. But he still loves the tradition. It's good basketball and he likes that."

When he does visit, the Easters know what they will be looking for in order to determine if Syracuse is the right fit.

"Basically how much they care for us, which they've proven that they care," Easter Sr. said. "Also what can get Jerry better. I know they have a great program and a great tradition. Carmelo Anthony was there. It's just a lot of different things. Also, Jerry is good friends with Kiyan Anthony and he's talking about going there as well. We watch from afar. We love their style, love their gritty style, love everything about Syracuse. Derrick Coleman went there and Jerry loves him. We just like that Big East. I think it would fit him well because he's a tough player as well."

In addition to Syracuse, Easter has offers from Arizona State, Cincinnati, Illinois, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ohio State, South Carolina, St. John's, UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt and Washington, among others.
