In this story:

Syracuse football has hired Frank Brown as its next head coach. Brown has spent the last two seasons at Georgia as defensive backs coach and is known as one of the best recruiters in the nation. In fact, 247Sports ranked Brown as the number one recruiter in the 2024 cycle. But his recruiting prowess does not stem from just his time at Georgia.

Obviously Georgia is a selector school. It is more difficult to recruit at a place like Syracuse than it is Georgia. Look at Brown's history for better comparisons. Brown spent time at Rutgers and Temple in various roles. He recruited at a high level in both stops as well.

At Temple, in the 2016 cycle, he helped the Owls land four star junior college defensive tackle Greg Webb. At Rutgers, he helped the Scarlet Knights land the following four star prospects: defensive back Alijah Clark, linebacker Khayri Banton, defensive back Shaquan Loyal and athlete Chris Long. Brown can have that type of impact, or perhaps better, at Syracuse.

Not only in the high school ranks but also through the transfer portal. There will be players leaving Georgia who were recruited by or coached by Brown. Former elite level prospects. Brown could use those relationships to build Syracuse's roster for the 2024 season and beyond.

Brown has had success recruiting various areas, most notably New Jersey. He is as respected and highly regarded as it gets in the talent rich state, which will help the Orange's recruiting efforts there. But Brown's recruiting success goes beyond the Garden State. Through his time at Temple and Rutgers, he also has strong connections in Pennsylvania (most notably the Philadelphia area) and New York City. More key recruiting areas for Syracuse.

From a recruiting perspective, Fran Brown is a perfect fit at Syracuse. He checks all of the boxes. Now he will be tasked with building a staff that has experience and recruiting acumen to go along with strong x's and o's.

Mike's career started with his own free blog as a way to vent following sporting events. Shortly thereafter, a network of basketball sites called Coast 2 Coast Hoops asked him to run their Syracuse site. That site was called Nation of Orange, and Mike quickly established it as a go-to for Syracuse fans.  After running Nation of Orange for several months, a position with the Syracuse site on the Scout network became available. After one year as the recruiting expert with Cuse Nation, he was named the publisher. Mike oversaw the transition from Scout to 247Sports, and ran the site on that network for years.  Presented with the opportunity to join one of the biggest names in the sports journalism industry, Sports Illustrated, Mike jumped at the chance. All Syracuse was started from scratch by Mike and the Fan Nation team. It has now become a staple for Orange fans of various sports.  Mike has broken news on recruiting, Syracuse basketball and football team information and has established himself as the top recruiting inside in the market.
