Garrison Heslop Has Familial Connection to Syracuse
Class of 2025 White Plains (NY) Stepinac defensive back Garrison Heslop was offered by Syracuse on Thursday. The Orange offer joins Minnesota, Purdue and Stony Brook as scholarship opportunities.
"Coach (Nunzio) Campanile called me after practice and asked me a couple questions about myself and family," Heslop said. "He also told me a few things I didn't know about the school and the football team's history. Then he offered me.
"I was extremely excited at the time because it is one of the places I really wanted to play at," Heslop said. "Mostly because my cousin, Doug Hogue, went there and he has said a lot of good things about Syracuse. Like the people there care and act as a family. That's what I'm looking for in a college."
Hogue, a former Syracuse running back and linebacker, also played in the NFL for the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers. Hogue is not the only football bloodline for Heslop either. His dad, Gavin Heslop, played college ball at Stony Brook and spent two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.
The other schools that Heslop says he really wants to play at are Cincinnati and Oregon. He has not been offered by either to date.
The next step for Heslop is to visit Syracuse.
"Nothing set yet, but definitely very soon," Heslop said.
