Georgia WR Transfer Jackson Meeks Commits to Syracuse, Discusses Decision
Georgia wide receiver transfer Jackson Meeks has committed to Syracuse, he announced following an official visit. Meeks did not tweet any offers he received, so it is unknown which other schools were in the mix. Meeks follows former Georgia assistant Fran Brown to Syracuse as he was named head coach this offseason. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
"I picked Syracuse because I will have an opportunity to come up here and play," Meeks said. "Come up here and make a difference. Come up here and show who I am, just help the team win. Become a winning team again. That's mostly the reason. I trust coach Fran, I love coach Fran's plan. Honestly he's just one of the realest people I've met. I trust the process and I'm going to trust the process here."
Meeks comes to Syracuse after playing sparingly with the Bulldogs and looking for a place where he would have a larger role in the offense. He has one year of eligibility remaining. In three seasons at Georgia, Meeks had 10 catches for 132 yards. The 6-2, 205 pounder also contributed on special teams.
"I've been in special teams meetings with coach Fran for two years," Meeks said. "We've been talking and he's been telling me big things that he wants to do with the program. Everything's looking good up there. I like it a lot."
As a high school recruit, Meeks was considered a high three star prospect out of Phenix City (AL) Central. He signed with Georgia over offers from Appalachian State, Liberty, Ole Miss, West Virginia and others.
This time around, he was looking for a place where he could showcase his abilities on offense. After speaking with current players in addition to the coaches, he felt Syracuse was a place he could do just that.
"I got to hang around Oronde Gadsden a lot, number 19," Meeks said. "He basically gave me the run down of everything. He said it's real chill up there. It kind of reminds me of Athens (GA) a lot. Real secluded campus, not really a lot going on, not a lot of trouble up there. It's just football and sports.
"Coach Fran and the new OC that he hired, they basically told me that I'd have a lot of opportunities. That's really all I want, honestly. To have an opportunity to come up there and help the team win."
