Class of 2024 quarterback John White has been committed to Southern Miss for about a year. That has not prevented him from exploring his options, however. He spent last weekend on the Syracuse campus for an official visit and earned an offer during the trip.

"It was great," White said. "I had a great time. Finally got to spend some time with coach Beck and coach Harris, meet coach Babers and spend a lot of time with them. I enjoyed spending time with them and getting to see campus and see the facilities, see the Dome which they take a lot of pride in. A cool place to play. I enjoyed getting to talk some ball with them, talk through their scheme, watch some film and get on the board. I had a great time."

White's player host was Orange tight end Dan Villari.

"Dan was great, he was a great host," White said. "He said I was actually his first recruit that he's ever hosted. He did a great job. I got to spend some time with him with the coaches but then I got to spend some time with him away from the coaches. Kind of talk some things about the guys and some things that don't really get brought up around the coaches. He's a great guy and a great player, and I enjoyed spending time with him. He talked highly of how close of a family Syracuse football is and how well the coaches treat them."

White also spent time with current Syracuse quarterback Garrett Shrader.

"He came in one of our meetings," White said. "Got to sit down and talk some ball with him. Then I got some one on one time with him at night at dinner. He's a great guy. He came from Mississippi State so I knew who he was and kept up with him. We talked about the scheme, what he looks for and how he processes thing. How me and him play and think the same a little bit. I enjoyed getting to hang out with him a lot."

Film study with the Syracuse coaches was a highlight of the trip.

"One of the main things they see me in my quarterback play is how accurate I am," White said. "That's a very important thing to coach Beck and coach Harris and coach Babers. In their offense, you've got to be accurate, be smart and make good decisions. You've got to be able to move. He put a big emphasis on how the quarterback is in charge every play. He thinks that I would be a great fit into his system with how well I can throw and I can move too."

Overall, Syracuse made an impression on White.

"Right now they are close to the top," White said. "I'm going to try to make a decision in the upcoming week. I don't want to go into the season, I want to be able to focus on my team. I want to be able to be committed to a team where I'm wanted and Syracuse is definitely a place like that. The visit helped me answer a lot of questions, getting up there to see campus and the city."

White has already seen West Virginia in addition to Syracuse. He has a visit to Cincinnati this weekend, and will go into decision making mode after that. A decision is expected next week.
