New Mexico State Transfer DT Dion Wilson Jr. Sets Three Official Visits
New Mexico State defensive tackle transfer Dion "Tank" Wilson Jr. has scheduled official visits to Rutgers, Syracuse and Texas A&M, he tells All Syracuse. Wilson will visit Rutgers on January 3rd, Syracuse on January 4th and 5th, then take a visit to Texas A&M on January 6th and 7th. A decision is expected after that. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Wilson started his career at Arizona. He redshirted as a freshman in 2020, appeared in six games as a reserve in 2021 and then 10 as a reserve in 2022 before transferring to New Mexico State. The 6-5, 300 pounder recorded 30 tackles and 1.5 sacks last season.
As a high school recruit, Wilson was rated a three star prospect out of Orange Vista High in California. He signed with the Wildcats over offers from Arizona State, Hawaii, Kansas State and others.
As a transfer, Wilson has reported offers from Western Kentucky, North Texas, Texas Tech, Colorado State, Indiana, California, Rutgers, Texas A&M, Coastal Carolina and Syracuse, among others.
Syracuse has been very active in the transfer portal, landing seven transfers. The Orange has landed a quarterback, offensive lineman defensive end, linebacker and a couple receivers. What Syracuse does not have is an interior defensive lineman to date. The Orange definitely wants reinforcements there, and Wilson would fit the bill.
