Ohio State Quarterback Transfer Kyle McCord Commits to Syracuse

Syracuse football’s monster offseason continues with one of its most high profile moves yet. The Orange has landed a commitment from Ohio State transfer quarterback Kyle McCord, sources confirm. Pete Thamel of ESPN first reported the news. McCord is rated a four star transfer by 247Sports and considered one of the best quarterbacks currently available. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Last season was the first as the full time starter for the 6-3, 215 pounder. He threw for 3,170 yards with 24 touchdowns to just six interceptions while completing 65.8% of his passes while leading the Buckeyes to an 11-1 record.
McCord came to Ohio State with much fanfare in the 2021 recruiting cycle as a five star prospect per the 247Sports Composite Ranking. He was a consensus top 50 prospect in his recruiting class. He chose the Buckeyes over offers from Arizona, Baylor, Boston College, Clemson, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and others.
McCord played his high school ball in Pennsylvania, but is originally from New Jersey. Two areas new Syracuse head coach Fran Brown has extensive ties.
Syracuse lost its starting quarterback from 2023 as Garrett Shrader exhausted his eligibility. With a new coaching staff, the Orange was looking to bring in someone who could step in as the started. Kyle McCord checks all of the boxes. He has a big arm, is a proven winner and pro potential.
