Shy Hawkins Commits to Syracuse Women's Basketball
Syracuse women's basketball landed a commitment from Shy Hawkins, a 6-2 wing who plays at Long Island Lutheran, on Wednesday. Hawkins chose the Orange over offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Central Florida, Memphis, Penn State and St. John's, among others. She is ranked the 72nd best player in the 2024 recruiting class by ESPNW. She is also the 10th best win in the cycle according to those same rankings.
Hawkins is the second top 100 player to commit to Syracuse in the 2024 class, joining wing Keira Scott. Scott comes in at 97th overall. Guard Olivia Schmitt and Maddy Potts are also committed to the Orange this cycle, giving coach Legette-Jack a four player class this far.
That also gives the Orange two top 100 prospects in 2024 after landing one in 2023. Forward Alyssa Latham out of Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Illinois signed with Syracuse last cycle. ESPNW ranks her, ironically, as the 72nd best player in her class.
Syracuse women's basketball is coming off of head coach Felisha Legette-Jack's first campaign with the Orange last season. She led Syracuse to a berth in the WNIT, becoming the first head coach in program history to lead the team to the postseason in her first year. Syracuse is looking to build off of that and make the NCAA Tournament in year two.
