In this story:

Syracuse football is after one of the top linebackers in the Northeast in Camden (NJ) Eastside standout Fatim Diggs. The 6-3, 220 pounder released his top five schools on Tuesday, and the Orange made the cut. The top five included Maryland, Ole Miss, Penn State, Syracuse and West Virginia. Why was the Orange included?

"Great program and coaching staff," Diggs said. "Academics are great."

Diggs also held offers from Boston College, Virginia and Virginia Tech, but eliminated those three from contention. He took an unofficial visit to Syracuse last April and has maintained contact with the coaching staff ever since.

The next step for Diggs? Scheduling official visits. Nothing has been set yet, but he said Syracuse is in line to get one of those officials.

"Yeah I plan on visiting," Diggs said. "No dates right now."

Syracuse has had some strong linebacker play over the last few seasons in the 3-3-5 defense. In fact, its starting middle linebacker, Mikel Jones, is slated to be selected in the 2023 NFL Draft this week. Marlowe Wax, who is taking over for Jones in the middle after spending the previous couple of seasons on the outside, is likely to get NFL looks in 2024.

Diggs is versatile enough to play outside backer or on the inside, but is likely being pursued by Syracuse for the middle spot.

Mike's career started with his own free blog as a way to vent following sporting events. Shortly thereafter, a network of basketball sites called Coast 2 Coast Hoops asked him to run their Syracuse site. That site was called Nation of Orange, and Mike quickly established it as a go-to for Syracuse fans.  After running Nation of Orange for several months, a position with the Syracuse site on the Scout network became available. After one year as the recruiting expert with Cuse Nation, he was named the publisher. Mike oversaw the transition from Scout to 247Sports, and ran the site on that network for years.  Presented with the opportunity to join one of the biggest names in the sports journalism industry, Sports Illustrated, Mike jumped at the chance. All Syracuse was started from scratch by Mike and the Fan Nation team. It has now become a staple for Orange fans of various sports.  Mike has broken news on recruiting, Syracuse basketball and football team information and has established himself as the top recruiting inside in the market.
