SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On Tuesday night, #7 Syracuse hosted fellow in-state squad Siena for about two-thirds of a game to cap off a three-match home stand. The game was canceled in the 55th minute due to intense rain. It started to drizzle right after the referee blew the first whistle to kick-off the match, and the intensity only picked up as the game went on.

Even though nearly an hour of game time was played, there’s not too much to take away from this one. While the Orange dominated possession and shots (nine to three), neither Syracuse nor Siena were able to break the deadlock in a sloppy game. The match was whistled dead at 0-0 as the field began to flood.

The rain could be used as an excuse, but the Orange not putting one by a Saints side that has not won this year and has been outscored 10-2 in their four losses is not an ideal result. The match was ruled a no-contest.

Coming off three straight games at home, Syracuse will be hitting the road to open ACC play this week. On Saturday, the Orange will be traveling to North Carolina to play 20th ranked Wake Forest, who remain nationally ranked even after a shaky 2-1-2 start. Syracuse beat the Demon Deacons 2-0 when they met in conference play last October and will look to stay undefeated on the season when that game is set to kick off at 7pm on Saturday, September 16.
