The ACC took on the Big 10 in their matchup tonight as Syracuse fell to Iowa 3-0. Despite the numbers, the Orange matched up well against the Hawkeyes without leading hitter, Cherlin Antonio, who did not make an appearance on the court tonight.

Facing adversity has been a persistent theme for the team as the loss tonight makes it a 1-8 overall record on the season. However, that hasn’t broken the squad’s spirit. Freshman defensive specialist, Greta Schlichter, said post-game, it may have not been the outcome they wanted, but their execution was a team effort.

“It's the most important thing to keep this energy high. And it's like, it doesn't come from individual players,” said Schlichter. “It has to come from the whole team, from the bench, from the team, from the coaching staff and from the fans. And I think today, we all did a pretty good job keeping up this energy.”

Tonight, Schlichter faced a 6 foot 7, middle hitter from Iowa’s side of the net, and found herself second on the kill leaderboards with a grand total of nine kills. Undeterred by her 5’6 stature and a shift in positions on the court, Schlitcher executed on the offensive end, having fun while doing so.

“Yeah, she definitely is tall. But she's not the world's best player,” said Schlichter. “So I was just having fun, like, playing against her and using her block trying to hit .... So I did a good job here.” Schlichter.

Tomorrow, the Orange take on Morgan State back in the women's building at 2 PM in hopes of their first win on home court.
