Aggies Baseball Star Jace LaViolette Named SEC Freshman Of The Week
Jace LaViolette is a five-tool player who could be the face of Texas A&M baseball for years to come. For those still doubting his dominance at the plate, last week should have silenced all critics.
LaViolette was named the SEC’s Freshman of the Week, per a release from league officials on Monday afternoon.
The Katy native showed off his power at the plate and skills in the outfield during the Aggies' four games against Texas State and Auburn.
LaViolette led all SEC players with 10 RBIs last week and helped lead the Aggies to a series road win against the Tigers.
He launched a no-doubt solo home run in the fourth inning of Game 1 to put the Aggies down by two. LaViolette then blasted a pair of homers in Game 2 and totaled four RBIs in a 10-9 loss.
LaViolette closed out the series by drawing three walks and hitting a single in a series-clinching win.
He walked twice with the bases loaded to bring in RBI. He also had a two-run double and scored twice in a 10-9 win over Texas State Tuesday night at Blue Bell Park.
Since joining the roster, LaViolette has fluctuated his position in the batting order, often finding himself in the heart of the lineup between holes No. 4-7. He leads the Aggies with eight home runs and 34 RBIs, while also carrying a .266 batting average.
The Aggies (20-12, 5-7 SEC) return to Blue Bell Park Tuesday for a midweek matchup against UTSA. A&M will remain in College Station for its three-game series against Missouri starting on Thursday.
