Texas A&M WR Ainias Smith's Swift Recovery Fuels NFL Draft Meetings, Texans' Prospect Day
Standout wide receiver Texas A&M Aggies Alum Aniais Smith is swiftly recovering from shin surgery to repair a stress fracture. He is projected to be fully cleared for running and football activities within six weeks.
Smith has engaged in multiple NFL meetings and is slated to attend the Texans' local pro day this Thursday.
He has conducted Zoom meetings with the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, and Jacksonville Jaguars. Additionally, he met in person with the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys during his Pro Day, where he also connected with the Texans.
Despite his injury, Smith demonstrated impressive athleticism, clocking a 4.47-second 40-yard dash and completing a 6.86 three-cone drill at his Pro Day. Before surgery, with a shin throbbing, Smith participated in the Senior Bowl all-star game and underwent testing according to an interview with reporter Aaron Wilson.
"So with me being a little disappointed in my numbers, they were telling me that it was all smooth because I’m running on a broken leg,” Smith said. “It sounds smooth, but, honestly, I got good reaction from it, though, for sure. I feel like I did smooth, honestly,"
Smith, showcased his talent this season by catching 53 passes for 795 yards and two touchdowns. Throughout his career, he has amassed impressive stats, including 180 receptions for 2,407 yards and 19 touchdowns, along with 405 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Additionally, he has recorded two punt returns for touchdowns and boasts a career average of 10.2 yards per punt return and 18.0 yards per kickoff return. Looking ahead, Smith is eager to make his mark in the NFL, particularly alongside his brother, Maurice Smith, who also plays in the league.
