Former Aggies Pitcher Brooks Raley to Represent US Team in World Baseball Classic

For the first time since its inception in 2006, a former Aggie player will represent the United States in the international event.

As USA Baseball gears up for the 2023 World Baseball Classic next month, the rosters are beginning to take shape.

For the first time since its inception in 2006, a former Aggie player will represent the United States in the international event.

San Antonio native and former Aggies pitcher Brooks Raley was one of 15 hurlers selected for Team USA. Raley made his Texas A&M debut in 2008 and played through the 2009 season, earning All-America and All-Big 12 honors before being drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the sixth round in the 2009 MLB Draft.

Raley debuted for the Cubs in 2012, pitching 14 games over the next two seasons before joining the Lotte Giants of the KBO League in South Korea.

Returning to the majors with the Reds in 2020, Raley was traded to the Houston Astros later that season where he also saw time on the roster during their World Series run.

Raley then spent 2022 with the Tampa Bay Rays, registering a 2.68 ERA over 52.2 innings while tossing 61 strikeouts to 15 walks before a trade to the New York Mets.

The US team opens the World Baseball Classic against Great Britain on Saturday, March 11, as part of Pool C at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

The US then faces Mexico on March 12, Canada on March 13, and Columbia on March 15 as Pool C play continues. The winner and runner-up of Pool C will advance to the quarterfinals in Miami from March 17-18 to match up against the winner and runner-up of Pool D.

The semifinals and finals will both be played at loanDepot Park in Miami from March 19-21.
