Texas A&M Remains Unranked In AP Poll After Series Sweep Of LSU

The Aggies still can't crack the AP's Top 25 rankings after defeating LSU at home.

Another week, another log added to the Texas A&M Aggies men's basketball fire regarding its status among the Associated Press rankings.

The Aggies remain unranked despite picking up a 74-62 victory over LSU Saturday night at Reed Arena. Texas A&M received 16 votes for Week 15's poll, the second-most among SEC teams that did not qualify for a top 25 ranking.

Missouri, which currently is on a two-game win streak that featured a victory over No. 10 Tennessee, finished with 116 votes, just missing out on the top 25 in favor of Florida Atlantic.

The Aggies (18-7, 10-2 SEC) are off to their best record under fourth-year coach Buzz Williams thanks to consistent shooting and premier defensive play. On Saturday, Texas A&M held the Tigers (12-13, 1-11) to 41.6 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from the 3-point range.

Wade Taylor IV took over as the leading man with 23 points, while Dexter Dennis and Tyrece Radford scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. As a program, the Aggies made a season-high 50 percent of their shots from behind the arc.

According to ESPN's Joe Lunardi, the Aggies are among the last four teams in for March's NCAA Tournament, along with Ketucky, New Mexico and North Carolina. Since their 81-70 loss to Arkansas last month, Texas A&M has picked up three straight wins, including season sweeps over Auburn and LSU.

Texas A&M will have a chance to strengthen its case for a higher seed in the SEC Tournament should it continue to pick up wins against conference opponents. Two games that should be highlighted on the schedule moving forward include a road trip to Knoxville to take on No. 10 Tennessee come Feb. 21 and a home game against top-ranked Alabama in the season finale.

The Crimson Tide (22-3, 12-0) are currently on a four-game win streak. Their only losses have come to then-No. 20 UConn, then-No. 15 Gonzaga and Oklahoma in the SEC/Big 12 challenge. Alabama also has picked up five ranked wins, including a pair over then-No. 1s North Carolina and Houston.

Before putting the wagon before the horse, the Aggies must prepare for their rematch against Arkansas on Tuesday night at home. The Razorbacks are coming off a 70-64 to Mississippi State in Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday evening.
