Aggies vs. Longhorns a Potential Matchup Again in Latest March Madness Projections

The Texas A&M Aggies have another chance to meet with the Texas Longhorns in the NCAA Tournament, at least according to the latest March Madness projections from college basketball insider Andy Katz.
In this story:

There's few teams in college basketball that are more impatient to fast-forward to the 2024 NCAA Tournament than the Texas A&M Aggies.

And if current March Madness projections pan out correctly once the event rolls around next spring, it'll be impossible not to tune in to an Aggies redemption tour on the big stage, especially considering their potential matchups.

College basketball insider Andy Katz revealed his latest March Madness bracket predictions on Friday and has the Aggies slated as a No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region. In this scenario, Texas A&M would face the winner of the First Four game between St. John's and Arizona State.

But for the second consecutive year, could a matchup between the Aggies and the Texas Longhorns be possible? Katz thinks it'll play out that way, as he has Texas as a No. 3 seed in A&M's portion of the region. Should both teams win against their lower-seeded opponents, the rivalry of the Lone Star Showdown would take place under the bright lights of March Madness for the first time ever.

Here's the bracket:

This is nearly how it played out this spring in Des Moines, Iowa during the opening rounds for the Midwest Region. The No. 7-seeded Aggies drew a matchup with the 10th-seeded Penn State Nittany Lions in the Round of 64. Win, and a potential battle with No. 2 seed Texas awaited the Aggies in the Round of 32.

Instead, the Aggies were blown out 76-59 despite posting a 25-10 record during the season.

But should a potential meeting with Texas sit right on the horizon again for the Aggies, it's hard to imagine they'll take their opening-round opponent lightly after what happened this past March.
