Streak Broken: Aggies Men's Hoops Falls to Mississippi State Bulldogs 69-62
The Texas A&M Aggies men's basketball team lost to the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday 69-62 at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Mississippi.
The loss snaps a six-game SEC winning streak for the Aggies, who now drop to 13-3 in conference play, while Mississippi State won just its seventh SEC matchup of the year, and improved to 7-9 in SEC contests.
A&M outshot the Bulldogs in both the 3-point category (36.4 percent to 14.3 percent) and in free throws (76.9 percent to 66.7 percent) but still couldn't stave off the Mississippi State's hot shooting from the floor. The Bulldogs shot 44.2 percent from the field compared to the Aggies' 39.5 percent.
The Bulldogs held a narrow two-point halftime lead, 30-28, but kept A&M at arm's length the rest of the way, mainly thanks to 12 steals registered by the team.
The Aggies were led by 21 points from guard Wade Taylor IV who also chipped in four assists. Forward Andersson Garcia scored 11 but was the only other Aggie with double-digit points.
Guard Tyrece Radford offered seven rebounds, all on the defensive boards.
For the Bulldogs, forward Tolu Smith scored 17 while also pulling down six boards, and guard Shakeel Moore poured in 14.
The Aggies owned a 44-35 lead with 14:09 left in the game, but a 13-3 run by the Bulldogs tied the score at 47 with 10:24 remaining. The game was tied again at 49 with 6:02 left, but Mississippi State was able to pull away.
Next up for the Aggies are the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday from The Sandy and John Black Pavilion in Oxford, Mississippi at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
