The Texas A&M Aggies were eliminated from the SEC men's basketball tournament on Saturday with a 95-90 loss to the Florida Gators.

Before the SEC Tournament started, the Aggies were teetering between last team in and first team out status for the NCAA Tournament that begins March 19. But with a huge win over No. 9 Kentucky in Friday's quarterfinals round, many are predicting we'll hear the Aggies announced during the selection show on Sunday.

A&M finished the regular season on a three-game winning streak and won its first two games of the SEC Tournament. That finish, regardless of the Aggies' loss to Florida in the SEC Tournament semifinal game on Saturday, should be enough to get A&M into the field of 68.

The Aggies finished the regular season with an 18-13 overall record and a 9-9 SEC mark. A&M opened the season on a five-game winning streak and ended the season on one before the tournament loss to Florida.

After the Florida loss, Aggies head coach Buzz Williams commented on the confidence level for a tournament bid.

“Well, I think it is a combination of the last six weeks. I mean, I know you guys know. We lost every game for two-and-a-half weeks in a row, then now we have won every game for two-and-a-half weeks in a row.

“Thankful for the last five wins. This is our first loss in March. But I also think the response of our guys from the five losses in a row – thankful, very grateful. I thought they played with great resiliency today on a fast turnaround."

Williams also thinks his team's history plays in their favor.

“Of all of the things that transpired – to lose a two-possession game against a top 25 team, (I am) really thankful. Whatever is going to happen tomorrow, just to be able to be in this position – I think our team has changed over the last three weeks. I think there is some legacy that goes into what has transpired and their response.

“To be able to play on Saturday three years in a row in the tournament … I think there is a lot of good stuff. We are disappointed with the result, but we also do not want to miss the lessons that transpired this month for sure.”
