'Fun!' Aggies AD Trev Alberts To Face Former School in NCAA Tournament
The Texas A&M Aggies are making back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in more than a decade. Their first matchup is a bit ironic.
The Aggies (20-14) earned an at-large bid in the South Region and will face No. 8-seed Nebraska (23-10) on Friday in Memphis, Tennessee.
Newly-hired Aggies athletic director Trev Alberts left Nebraska just last week, after serving as their athletic director. Alberts' history with the Cornhuskers is long, he played linebacker for Nebraska from 1990-93, earning the Dick Butkus Award and Jack Lambert Award as a top college linebacker. Alberts was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2015.
Now, just a week after leaving his alma mater, the Aggies punched a ticket to the Big Dance to face the Cornhuskers. Alberts posted his reaction on social media.
The 1.5-point underdog Aggies have a chance to win their first NCAA tournament game since 2018.
Looming next, is the challenge of facing potentially No. 1-seeded Houston, if the Cougars take care of business against Longwood, with a trip to the South Regional at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on the line.
'Remarkable Trajectory': Athletic Director Trev Alberts Ready For New Challenge At Texas A&M
A Sweet 16 run in the South Regional would be a homecoming for Texas A&M's Wade Taylor IV, who is from Dallas. Taylor led the Aggies to the semifinals in the SEC Tournament, earning a spot on the SEC's All-Tournament Team after scoring a tournament-best 82 points.
Texas A&M vs. Nebraska tips off on Friday, March 22 at 5:50 p.m. CT at the FedExForum.
