Former Aggie TE placed on IR by Green Bay Packers
COLLEGE STATION - The Green Bay Packers added another weapon in April's NFL Draft to Aaron Rodger's arsenal. They will now have to wait before displaying him to NFL defenses.
The Packer announced Tuesday evening that rookie tight end Jace Sternberger would begin the season on the injured reserve to begin the year. The third-round pick suffered an ankle injury in the preseason finale match up against the Kansas City Chiefs after he caught his first professional touchdown.
Last season, Sternberger became Texas A&M's go-to target on offense for Kellen Mond. Leading the team in receiving yards (832), receptions (48) and touchdowns (10), the Kansas transfer helped A&M finish with a 9-4 season in Jimbo Fisher's first year.
Earlier this preseason, Sternberger was sidelined after suffering a concussion in a joint practice with the Houston Texans. He was ruled ineligible to return due to the process of the concussion protocol.
Due to the NFL rules, Sternberger will be out for at least eight weeks before being eligible to return. The Packers believe the former Aggie should be an explosive weapon and the long-term option at tight end once he returns to playing.
