COLLEGE STATION - Jashaun Corbin listened last season. Following the direction of his coaches and watching the man in front of him, the freshman rusher took everything in.

It was all building towards his chance to shine. And on Thursday night, he got the opportunity to show Texas A&M who he truly was.

"I thought Jashaun [Corbin] as it got going kept running better and better," A&M coach Jimbo Fisher said following the 41-7 victory over Texas State.

Corbin finished the night with 103 yards on 22 carries and averaged 4.7 yards per carry. Following a 40-yard pass from Kellen Mond to Jhamon Ausbon, the sophomore would punch it in at the goal line for a 1-yard touchdown.

He also played a factor in the passing game. During the first quarter, Corbin delivered a block that allowed Mond to find Quartney Davis for a 21-yard touchdown. The running back also made four catches for 12 yards and scored his second touchdown on a 5-yard 3-yard swing route.

"I thought they had a really good night," Mond said of Corbin and freshman running back Isaiah Spiller. "Obviously they weren't busting out runs, but, you know, you keep getting four, five, six yards.

"It really helps when they go out wide and catch stuff out the back field and just a really versatile back, so I thought they did a really good job tonight."

Last season, Trayveon Williams set a school record in both single-season rushing (1,760) and all-purpose yards (2,038). With his departure to the NFL, Corbin was expected to take his place. In his first night has a starter, he made a substantial impact from the get-go.

The Aggies offense collected 478 total yards against the Bobcats defense. With Mond under center, Corbin leading the charge in the backfield and a plethora of weapons, A&M could start entering the conversation as a potential playoff team.

Their first real test though will come next Saturday when they travel to South Carolina to face the No.1 Clemson Tigers in Memorial Stadium.

"We're going to start preparing tonight," cornerback Myles Jones said.
