REPORT: Texas A&M Aggies DL Coach Elijah Robinson Hired By Syracuse Orange as Defensive Coordinator
The Texas A&M Aggies fired Jimbo Fisher last month, officially beginning the transition into a new regime, led by Mike Elko.
Elko, a former defensive coordinator under Fisher in College Station, was hired last week by the Aggies after two years at Duke.
But in between the end of the Fisher era, and the start of Elko's tenure, it was defensive line coach Elijah Robinson that was charged with leading the program as the interim head coach.
And now, after leading the Aggies to a win over Abilene Christian, and a close loss to the No. 13 LSU Tigers, Robinson is reportedly on the move, with TexAgs.com reporter Billy Liucci reporting that he has been hired by the Syracuse Orange as the team's new defensive coordinator.
Robinson, who was hired by the Aggies in 2018 under Fisher, was under consideration for the full-time head coaching position after his stint as the interim coach. In part, because of his already-established presence within the program.
But most importantly, because of his relationship with the players.
“It was really cool to see the reaction of the players when coach (Robinson) spoke to them,” Bjork said in his press conference Sunday. “They came up to him and really, really responded in a positive manner. And he just did a great job of showing leadership and making sure that everyone is going to be on the same page moving forward.”
Robinson has also been instrumental in the Aggies' elite defensive line recruiting efforts as of late, helping the team to land big-time five-star recruits such as Walter Nolen, David Hicks, Shemar Stewart, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, and LT Overton.
Robinson now heads east, where he will help new Orange coach Fran Brown to rebuild the Syracuse program.
