SEC Announces Kickoff Time For Aggies vs. Alabama
COLLEGE STATION -- The SEC on CBS heads back to College Station one more time.
Naturally, it's for the biggest game of Texas A&M's season.
The league office announced Monday that CBS will make the trip to Kyle Field for A&M's matchup against No. 12 Alabama in Week 6, marking it as the SEC Game of the Week. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 7.
The Aggies (3-1, 1-0 SEC) have made games interesting against Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide (3-1, 1-0 SEC) over the past two seasons. In 2021, Jimbo Fisher became the first former assistant to defeat Saban in a 41-38 victory at Kyle Field.
Zach Calzada dazzled against a potent Alabama defense, throwing for 285 yards and three touchdowns against one interception. Running back De'Von Achane made headlines with a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to extend A&M's lead to 14 with eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Seth Small drilled a game-winning 28-yard field goal as time expired to end Alabama's 100-game win streak against unranked teams. Fisher ended Saban's 24-0 win streak against former assistants as fans rushed the field.
Last season in Tuscaloosa, the Aggies nearly pulled off the comeback. Both starters Max Johnson and Bryce Young were sidelined due to injuries. In his first career start, Alabama's Jalen Milroe threw for 111 yards and three touchdowns against one interception en route to a 24-20 victory.
Haynes King, the Aggies' initial starter, completed 25-of-46 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns against one interception. The Aggies pushed their way into the red zone on the final drive, but King couldn't connect with Evan Stewart at the 2 with three seconds remaining.
“Two good teams locked up and battled and went at it and we showed what we’re capable of," Fisher said postgame.
The Week 7 showdown will mark the 16th all-time meeting between the Aggies and the Crimson Tide. A&M made headlines in 2012 during its first season as members of the SEC behind eventual Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel in a 29-24 upset at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Alabama is 12-3 all-time against A&M, and is 9-2 in the Saban era.
The Crimson Tide travel to Starkville on Saturday to face Mississippi State at 8 p.m. The Aggies head to AT&T Stadium in Arlington to face Arkansas in the annual Southwest Classic at 11 a.m.
