Aggies Coach Reveals How D-Line Can Be 'Special Group'

Texas A&M Aggies defensive line coach Elijah Robinson knows that a productive campaign starts focusing on the d-line as a whole.
In this story:

If there was one positive from last season for the Texas A&M Aggies, it's that their defense allowed the fourth-fewest points per game (21.2) in the SEC.

However, this was primarily due to a talented group of defensive backs with NFL talent. While A&M's secondary allowed the fewest passing yards per game in the conference, (156.2), the defense simultaneously surrendered the most rushing yards per game (208.8) in the SEC.

But defensive line coach Elijah Robinson knows that a productive campaign this season starts with throwing out all the names and focusing on the unit itself.

"The biggest thing I've seen out of this unit is they don't care who gets the credit," Robinson said Sunday. "And that's the biggest accomplishment you can have as a unit. If you don't care who gets the credit, you just want to work as a unit, I think then that's when you got a special group."

Of course, not all of the defense's success can be completely given to the secondary, as a solid pass rush on the quarterback is often necessary for defensive backs to make plays. The Aggies certainly have the talent up front to improve this season, evident by their good-but-not-great 20 sacks as a team along with guys like EDGE Fadil Diggs and defensive tackles Shemar Turner and McKinnley Jackson leading the way.

The Aggies host the New Mexico Lobos at Kyle Field on Saturday, Sept. 2 to open up the season.
