Texas A&M Aggies Hire Duke’s Derek Miller As New General Manager

Derek Miller joins Texas A&M as its new general manager for 2024.

Texas A&M has a new man leading the recruiting circuit under first-year coach Mike Elko.

The Aggies are hiring Duke's Derek Miller as their general manager, according to multiple reports. Miller worked underneath Elko in Durham during his two seasons with the Blue Devils.

Miller has experience working in the Southeastern Conference, having previously been on staff at LSU. He also has a working relationship with Elko during his time at Bowling Green. Miller was a student manager when Elko served as Dave Clawson's defensive coordinator in 2012.

Miller also worked at East Carolina in 2021 before joining Elko in the ACC. While there, he was vital in helping the Blue Devils land top-level talent both on the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal, including four-star defensive lineman Vincent Anthony Jr., three-star quarterback Grayson Loftis and three-star linebacker Kevin O'Connor.

Elko, who previously worked under Jimbo Fisher as the Aggies' defensive coordinator from 2018-21, led the Blue Devils to a 16-9 record over two seasons. In 2022, he turned a 3-9 roster into a 9-4 roster, winning the Military Bowl over UCF.

Elko was named ACC Coach of the Year in 2022. Last season, the Blue Devils kickstarted the season with a 28-7 upset over then-No. 9 Clemson at Wallace Wade Stadium, one of the biggest wins in program history.

Duke finished 7-5 after starting quarterback Riley Leonard suffered a lower-body injury in Week 4's loss over Notre Dame.

Miller is one of several names Elko has added to his staff from Duke in College Station. Earlier Tuesday, it was reported that the Aggies had hired offensive line coach Adam Cushing and cornerbacks coach Ishmail Aristide.

Aggies Elijah Robinson To Coach Against Oklahoma State In Texas Bowl

Elko hinted last week he plans to bring 'quite a few guys' from his staff in Durham down south, though Cushing and Aristide are the only two named so far. Elko recently hired former Florida co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Sean Spencer to replace Elijah Robinson.

A&M will close out the regular season in the TaxAct Texas Bowl against No. 20 Oklahoma State at NRG Stadium in Houston on Dec. 27. Robinson, who served as A&M's interim coach following Fisher's firing, will coach the Aggies before leaving to take over as Syracuse's new defensive coordinator under first-year coach Fran Brown.
