Halftime: Texas A&M Offense Sluggish On Senior Day, Aggies Lead 17-7 Over Abilene Christian

The Aggies have struggled to find any offensive identity in the first half of the Jimbo Fisher-less era.

COLLEGE STATION -- For a senior day to remember, Texas A&M is putting on a forgettable performance.

The Aggies lead 17-7 over Abilene Christian thanks to a 13-yard touchdown grab by Noah Thomas with 3:26 remaining in the second quarter. A&M will receive the ball to begin the second half.

In the wake of Jimbo Fisher's firing, the Aggies hoped to duplicate similar results to last week's 51-10 win over Mississippi State. Headlined by a four-touchdown performance from third-string quarterback Jaylen Henderson, A&M (6-4, 4-3 SEC) expected to send the senior class packing with a dominant win in front of the 12th Man faithful.

Instead, struggles occurred. Henderson finished the first half 12 of 18 passing for 134 yards. A&M finished 2-of-7 on third down and totaled 213 yards.

The offensive line struggled to hold blocks, allowing four sacks to a Wildcats' defensive front that looked like it belonged at the Power Five level. During A&M's opening drive, Henderson was intercepted by linebacker Cirby Coheley, who returned it 51 yards for the 7-0 lead.

Henderson found Jahdae Walker for a gain of 40 to set up a 7-yard touchdown run from Rueben Owens. Owens finished with a team-high 58 yards, including a 28-yard run to set up a 34-yard Randy Bond field goal.

Defensively, the Aggies continue to leave little room for success for opponents. The Wildcats (5-5) picked up four first downs and finished 1-of-8 on third-down conversions. ACU quarterback Maverick McIvor completed 11 of 20 passes for 49 yards.

The Aggies did not record a sack but totaled four tackles for loss. Four players recorded at least three tackles, including linebacker Edgerrin Cooper.

Prior to kickoff, A&M honored its senior class, headlined by receiver Ainias Smith, offensive lineman Layden Robinson, defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson, and tight end Max Wright.

The Aggies hit the road next Saturday to take on No. 15 LSU at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff in Baton Rouge is scheduled for 11 a.m.
