Three Texas A&M Aggies Named To SEC All-Freshman Team
A trio of Texas A&M players garnered national admiration after stellar freshmen campaigns.
Offensive lineman Chase Bisontis, running back Rueben Owens and linebacker Taurean York were named to the Freshman All-SEC Team, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.
Bisontis started at right tackle in all 12 games of his freshman campaign for the Aggies. He was one of three A&M offensive linemen to start each game that allowed two sacks or fewer in eight games. The New Jersey native helped A&M's rushing attack total over 200 yards in wins over Auburn (209), Arkansas (204) and Mississippi State (246).
Bisontis recently elected to enter the transfer portal following the hiring of Mike Eklo. He will have three years of eligibility remaining with his next program.
Owens appeared in 12, including four starts, coming out of El Campo High School. He finished in yards rushing (359) and second in total scrimmage yards (692). Owens also totaled 101 receiving yards on 11 catches.
Owens ranked second among true SEC freshmen in all-purpose yards and third among all FBS freshmen. The former five-star running back also recorded two games with 100-plus all-purpose yards against Miami (103) and ACU (124). His best game came against ACU when he rushed for 106 yards on 18 attempts and a touchdown.
Owens was the first A&M freshman running back to eclipse the 100-yard rushing mark since De’Von Achane in the 2021 Orange Bowl.
York started all 12 games at middle linebacker. He finished second behind Edgerrin Cooper, recording 66 stops, including 8.5 for a loss. A native of Temple, York finished second among Power Five freshman linebackers in stops.
York led the team in tackles in three games this season, including a career-high 11 takedowns in the win over Auburn. He also recorded at least six stops in games against Tennessee, Mississippi State and South Carolina.

The Aggies (7-5) will close out the 2023 season at NRG Stadium in Houston in the TaxAct Texas Bowl against No. 20 Oklahoma State (9-4) on Dec. 27. Interim coach Elijah Robinson will remain on staff through the bowl game before taking over as Syracuse's defensive coordinator.
