Aggies Announce Kickoff Time For Southwest Classic In Arlington
The Southwest Classic returns to AT&T Stadium once more for the annual showdown between Jerry Jones' hometown squad and the local team that resides in the Lone Star State.
Fans flood to Jerry World early for pregames and stay late for the action. They'll likely arrive in waves before the sun peaks on Sept. 30.
Texas A&M and Arkansas will kick off at 11 a.m., the league announced Monday morning. The game is expected to be broadcast on either ESPN or the SEC Network, though there has yet to be a set announcement as of this time.
The Aggies (2-1, 0-0 SEC) have dominated the series since reuniting with their old Southwest Conference foe in the SEC back in 2012. A&M is 9-1 against the Hogs, winning seven consecutive matchups in Arlington from 2014-2020.
The Razorbacks (2-1, 0-0 SEC) remain one of college football's biggest mystery programs heading into October. Sam Pittman looked to be the right man for the hire after defeating programs like Texas, LSU, Mississippi State and A&M en route to a 9-4 finish. Since then, he's 9-7 and hasn't found a rhythm on either side of the ball.
A&M returned to its winning ways in Arlington last September thanks to an 82-yard scoop-and-score by Demani Richardson and a 31-yard field goal from Randy Bond. The Razorbacks nearly completed the comeback in the fourth quarter, but Cam Little's 42-yard kick bounced off the upright to give the Aggies a 23-21 victory.
Texas A&M rebounded from a 48-33 loss against Miami with a potent offensive outing against Louisiana-Monroe. While Conner Weigman only threw for one touchdown, he also connected with Jahdae Walker and Ainias Smith for over 100 receiving yards and rushed in a score in the 47-3 win.
Arkansas will be looking for brighter days ahead. After needing a second-half surge to defeat Kent State, the Razorbacks fell 38-31 to Big 12 newcomer BYU. Running back Rahiem "Rocket" Sanders was inactive for the game due to injury and could be out for the matchup in Arlington.
The Aggies return to Kyle Field for an 11 a.m. kick against Auburn to start conference play. The Razorbacks will travel to Baton Rouge to face off against No. 12 LSU at 6 p.m.
