Jimbo Fisher Shades TCU For National Title Blowout Loss

In this story:

The TCU Horned Frogs nearly had the Cinderella season of a lifetime last fall, making a run all the way to the College Football Playoff, and eventually, the national title game against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Unfortunately for the Horned Frogs, that is when they ran into the buzzsaw, with Georgia demolishing Max Duggan and Co. on their way to a 65-7 win at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

And this week during an appearance at the Fort Worth Aggies Club, Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher had some fun at TCU's expense, sending some shade about the Big 12 in comparison to the mighty SEC, which has now won six of the nine College Football Playoff titles, as well as the last four-straight.

“They stayed healthy, they had a lot of experience and they got to where they had to get to," Fisher said. "And then when they got to the SEC, it changed, didn’t it?”

It was certainly an anti-climactic end for the Horned Frogs. However, it is probably not one to be diminished.

And quite frankly, the Aggies don't have much room to talk in terms of SEC accomplishments since their entry more than a decade ago. In fact, last season, the Aggies finished 5-7 and 2-6 in the conference - good for last in the West.

That said, Fisher is also not wrong either, as the SEC has proven itself to be the premier conference in the country by a wide margin, holding a staggering advantage over the rest of the Power 5 conferences all-time. The league also produces the most NFL talent by a wide margin, at 19.6 percent, with the Big 10 coming in at 14.8 percent, and the Big 12 producing just 8.0 percent.

In other words, iron sharpens iron, and playing in the SEC week in and week out is without a doubt the toughest task in the country.

Now, however, the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners are heading to the SEC in 2024, making the path to an SEC title even more difficult, and making the route to a Big 12 title much, much easier.

So perhaps, that iron is about to get even sharper, and maybe Texas A&M could benefit from it.
