Texas A&M moves up in AP Poll following bye week
COLLEGE STATION - The AP Poll can be a cruel and kind product to teams in the SEC. It will all be based on how other teams perform around them.
This past week, the poll seemed to play in favor of Texas A&M. Despite being 3-2 and having a bye week, multiple teams struggled inside the Top 25, giving the Aggies a chance to move up in the rankings.
The Aggies entered the AP Poll Sunday, ranked No.24. They were also listed as No.21 on the Coaches Poll thanks to losses by Oklahoma State, UCF, and Michigan State.
Texas A&M has been ranked all season after beginning the preseason as the No.12 ranked program. Last week, they were the only two-loss program inside the AP's Top 25 ranking. This week could have the Aggies either moving up or moving out due to their outing against No.1 Alabama.
Should A&M be able to upset the 17-time National Champions, it would be beneficial to their quest towards an SEC Championship appearance. It also would likely shake up the College Football Playoff rankings, moving the Crimson Tide out of the top four spots.
Ohio State could be the team to watch moving forward as they now enter the playoff picture at No.4. Several voters believed they could jump No.3 Georgia and sit right behind the two recent champions. The remainder of the top 10 stayed similar, outside of the addition of Penn State at No.10.
The Southeastern Conference still has impressed near the top of the poles. On top of the No.1 Crimson Tide and No.3 Bulldogs, LSU remains at No.5. Following a 24-13 victory over then-No.7 Auburn, Florida moved into the Tigers' old spot. Auburn dropped down to No.12 as the fifth member of the SEC.
The Aggies will host Alabama at Kyle Field at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, October 12. The game will be nationally televised on CBS.
