Texas A&M Aggies vs. Arkansas Razorbacks - How to Watch, Betting Odds
It's time for the annual Southwest Classic between the Texas A&M Aggies and Arkansas Razorbacks at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It's the yearly throwback game between two former longtime Southwest Conference foes who are now SEC rivals.
The big story - not just for this game but in all of college football - is the injury to Aggies phenom sophomore quarterback, Conner Weigman. Weigman went down with a left ankle injury in the second quarter against the Tigers and limped to the locker room just before halftime.
On Monday, it was reported that Weigman suffered a broken bone in his foot. X-rays were thought to be negative during the game, and Fisher said Monday that Weigman was "day-to-day." However, according to reports, further testing showed the injury to be a fracture and Weigman will need rest in order for it to heal.
"Toughest of news for A&M football. Per everything I've heard since yesterday and from sources very close to the situation, QB Conner Weigman's foot injury is, in fact, a season-ender for the emerging SEC star," TexAgs' Billy Liucci reported on Twitter. "Weight-bearing bone and roughly a 3.5-month recovery."
In the second half, the offense looked like a different beast with Johnson at the helm. Johnson posted 21 points while completing 7 of 11 passes for 123 yards. Johnson looked more comfortable than Weigman did and was much more effective.
That could be bad news for a Razorbacks team that has struggled on defense early in the season. In its two losses to BYU and LSU, Arkansas has allowed 38 and 34 points respectively.
Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher has full confidence in his backup signal-caller. “You have two guys, guys I’ve said from the beginning I’ve felt very confident with,” Fisher said. “(Johnson) came in and played excellent football and did a great job. He made plays and really led us through the game.”
