Aggies DB Antonio Johnson Assigned NFL Jersey Number
Former Texas A&M Aggies defensive back Antonio Johnson is sporting some new threads in his new home.
Despite wearing No. 27 at Texas A&M, Johnson will wear No. 26 with the Jacksonville Jaguars who selected him in the fifth round with the 160th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
After he was drafted, Johnson said he experienced "a lot of emotions" and said he felt "blessed."
“A lot of tears with my family. They’ve just been here by my side throughout this whole process," Johnson said. "Just to get that call and see my name come across that screen man and the delight. A lot of hard work. A lot of dedication. Like I said, God had a plan for me and today was the day and it was to be for me to move down to Jacksonville.”
The East St. Louis, IL. native earned a reputation for his fast play style and thumping hits on ball-carriers.
In three seasons with the Aggies, the class of 2020 four-star notched 164 tackles, 14 for loss, two sacks, seven pass break-ups, four forced fumbles and an interception.
In 2022, Johnson missed three games in the back half of the season, but returned against Auburn Nov. 12, 2022, with a vengeance.
Against the Tigers, the 6-3, 195-pound safety logged 10 tackles — his third of four times in double digits last season — while a career-high three were for loss. He also jump-started a stretch against Auburn in which he forced a fumble in each of the final three games to close out the season.
