'Once An Aggie, Always An Aggie': Demond Demas Seeking New Start After Legal Troubles

Former Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Demond Demas' legal troubles derailed his playing career, but now he's trying to rekindle his "happy place" at Garden City Community College.
In this story:

Former Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Demond Demas has a new home with Garden City Community College for the 2023 season.

Demas sat out last season focusing on his legal troubles, which involved family violence assault charges, that led to him being suspended from the university and to his inevitable transfer. Despite the class of 2020 five-star's downfall in College Station, he told Garden City Community College play-by-play announcer Cal Friedman that he was grateful for his time as an Aggie.

"My experience was lovely," Demas said. "I love that school still to this day. Once an Aggie, always an Aggie."

Demas played in 14 games across the 2020-21 seasons at Texas A&M, catching 15 passes for 235 yards and one touchdown.

Demas will be the focal point at Garden City, but said he's never really focused on outside pressures, even going back to his high school days a five-star prospect. He now is just focused on trying to set a good example for kids that look up to him, he said.

The Tomball, Texas, native will suit up against Butler Community College Aug. 24, marking the first down of football he will have played in 649 days.

"It's going to be a lot of emotion on that field through everything I do, whether it's a catch or a run, a touchdown," Demas said. "It's going to be a lot of emotions because I've been out of football for a minute. It's like a relief. I get to be back in my happy place."
