Texas A&M Aggies & Coach Jimbo Fisher Seek First True SEC Road Win Since 2021 vs. Ole Miss Rebels
The Texas A&M Aggies walked out of Kyle Field on Saturday with a win over the South Carolina Gamecocks. It wasn't the prettiest of wins, but it got the Aggies back on track and broke a modest two-game losing streak at the hands of Alabama and Tennessee.
And now, as A&M preps for a road game that takes them to Oxford, Mississippi to play the Ole Miss Rebels, they have an opportunity to not just start a winning streak heading into the final stretch of the season, but to close out a dubious stretch of seven SEC road games lost in a row.
The last time coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies won a true SEC road game (not counting the neutral-site Southwest Classic vs. Arkansas) was Oct. 16, 2021. A&M beat the Missouri Tigers 35-14 that day in Columbia, then closed out the season with road losses to Ole Miss and LSU.
That stretch of seven-straight SEC road losses is a micro chasm of the Jimbo Fisher era in College Station. Successfully navigating wins against lesser teams but struggling against top-level opponents seems to be a theme the Aggies that stuck with, with the exception of a couple of outstanding performances against Alabama.
The Texas A&M season is done for all practical purposes, and the only thing left to play for is pride. Well, maybe pride and a New Year's Six bowl game, for those who care about that. The Aggie shouldn't, other than the money that comes with it.
However long Jimbo's tenure lasts in Aggieland, and it shouldn't be much longer, his lack of success on the road against SEC opponents could be considered one of the reasons he didn't make it to the end of his contract in 2031.
