Aggies Improve 71 Spots In 'CBS Sports 133' Rankings
With the college football season less than a month away now, programs and fans are shifting into high gear in preparation. The Texas A&M Aggies hope to bounce back from a miserable 5-7 (2-6 SEC) campaign in 2022 in a season that started with such high hopes.
For many, Sept. 2nd can't come fast enough as the Aggies will face New Mexico at Kyle Field in the first game of the new campaign. Coach Jimbo Fisher has entrusted his offense to new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino, and anticipation is high for all to see this new dynamic attack that's expected by A&M.
In anticipation of the new campaign, and possibly with the new-look offense in mind, CBS Sports has placed the Aggies at No. 24 in its annual "CBS Sports 133" rankings. That's 47 positions higher than where A&M finished last season at No. 71.
CBS Sports' reasoning makes complete sense to us: "Last season’s 5-7 showing was an aberration compared to how most teams finish with a roster as talented as that of Texas A&M. This adjustment recognizes that talent will likely deliver more wins than a year ago and notes what could be a positive spark for the offense in the hire of Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator."
A lot is riding on Petrino and his ability to convert this offense from anemic to spectacular. The talent is there, and Fisher continues to head a recruiting department that consistently impresses. But come Sept. 2nd, it's time to show the improvements on the field.
