ESPN's Rece Davis Says 'Over 7.5 Wins' for Aggies in '23
It's been written so many times this offseason it's hard to write again, especially this close to the start of the regular season for the Aggies. But here we go: the Texas A&M Aggies are desperately hoping for a bounce-back season from a miserable 5-7 campaign in 2022.
Entering coach Jimbo Fisher's sixth season at the helm of the program, and his first without complete offensive control, Aggieland is looking for a vast improvement on the field.
At least one college football analyst thinks it'll happen, as ESPN College Gameday host Rece Davis discussed this week on his podcast.
“I do think A&M will be improved,” Davis said on his College Gameday podcast. “I think they lose four. 8-4 seems about right. They have some tough road games. The over/under is 7.5 so I am going to spin the Wheel of Fortune and say they get to eight and barely get above the win total.”
Davis mentioned the road matchups, and that might be the key to success. The Aggies almost always play well at Kyle Field (forget about Sept. 10 last season). But with in-conference road games against Tennessee, Ole Miss and LSU, and a neutral-site tilt against Arkansas which is technically a road game this year, A&M will have its work cut out for it.
There's also an early Sept. 9 game against a much improved Miami (FL) team that could cause problems for Fisher and Co.
It's hard to say what a successful season for A&M would entail, but certainly, it would have to be more than eight wins. And those wins will be hard to come by both at home and on the road. But we hope Davis - with all his expertise - is right about this one.
