Texas A&M Dubbed One Of College Football's 'Most Dangerous Teams'
The Texas A&M Aggies may have had a down year in 2022, but they are expected to bounce back in a big way in 2023.
And entering the sixth year under Jimbo Fisher, every week will be critical for the Aggies, who are looking to rebound after a rough 5-7 campaign.
Luckily for Fisher, the Aggies have an extremely talented roster, led by the wide receiver duo of Anias Smith and Evan Stewart, safety Bryce Anderson, and upcoming quarterback Conner Weigman.
Not to mention, a host of talented and highly recruited first and second-year players who will be stepping up into the spotlight, and looking to make an impact, and the critical addition of Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator.
Suffice it to say, there is optimism around the Aggies. And on Monday, that continued to be the case, with 247Sports analyst Brad Crawford tabbing the Aggies as one of the nation's 'most dangerous teams.'
Why the Aggies are dangerous: There is a reason Jimbo Fisher's team garners national acclaim despite last season's failures. The roster, despite turnover, remains elite and the addition of Bobby Petrino has a chance to pay off in a big way for the Aggies offensively. With Evan Stewart and Ainias Smith — who many have compared to Deebo Samuel due to his versatility — are back, along with promising wideout Moose Muhammad III, there's a lot to work with for Petrino if quarterback Connor Weigman is able to take the next step. With a couple sophomores expected to start along the offensive front, that might be the defining position group this fall as Texas A&M tries to find more potency on Petrino's side of the football.
Other teams on the list included the Texas Longhorns at No. 1, the USC Trojans at No. 2, Penn State at No. 3, Wisconsin at No. 4, Tennessee at No. 5, South Carolina at No. 6, Kansas State at No. 7, UCLA at No. 9, and Tulane at No. 10.
Of course, a rebound will be easier said than done for the Aggies, however. Gone are Jaylon Jones and Antonio Johnson, who were arguably the two best defensive players on the team last season. And likewise, De'Von Achane, who was easily the Aggies most dangerous offensive player, is gone as well.
Despite that, the Aggies are still loaded on both sides of the ball, particularly at some of the most important positions on the field - quarterback, defensive line wide receiver, and cornerback. And while there are still questions surrounding certain spots among the offensive line and running back room, those groups are still talented.
So, if there is going to be a team to upset the status quo in the recent college football world, why not Texas A&M?
