Texas A&M Aggies RB De'Von Achane Named AFC Rookie of Week

De'Von Achane made headlines like he did with the Texas A&M Aggies during his breakout game for the Miami Dolphins.

De'Von Achane knew what it was like to score at Hard Rock Stadium well before his four-touchdown outing Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Just like back in 2021, he's being honored for his efforts.

Achane, the former speedster running back for Texas A&M, was named AFC Rookie of the Week following his 203-yard, four-score breakout game Sunday in a 70-20 win over the Broncos. He also caught four passes for 30 yards, one of which went for a four-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

With Jeff Wilson placed on injured reserve, Achane stepped into the No. 2 role behind Raheem Mostert. He scored in the first quarter on an 8-yard run to extend Miami's lead to 14-0. Then came the reception from Tua Tagovailoa to make it 21-7.

Achane broke free to start the fourth quarter with a 10-yard touchdown reception from Tua to make it 56-13. He saved his best for last, scoring on a 67-yard run with 8:01 left to play to extend Miami's lead by 50 points.

Achane averaged 11.3 yards per run on 18 carries and picked up six first downs with his legs. His 203 yards were the most recorded by a rookie running back since Jonathan Taylor totaled 253 in the 2020 season finale win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A three-year contributor at Texas A&M, Achane became the feature back for the Aggies last season when he rushed for a career-best 1,102 yards and eight touchdowns. In his final game against LSU, he ran for a single-game high of 215 yards en route to a 38-23 upset.

He was drafted 84th overall by the Dolphins this past spring after posting a 4.32 40-time at the NFL Combine in March. In his season debut against the New England Patriots, Achane rushed for five yards off one carry.

The Aggies head to Arlington this Saturday to take on Arkansas at AT&T Stadium in the annual Southwest Classic at 11 a.m. Achane and the Dolphins will take on their AFC East rival Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y.
