Former Aggies QB Jerrod Johnson Could Soon Become NFL Offensive Coordinator

Former Texas A&M Aggies QB Jerrod Johnson is on his way to being a hot coaching candidate in the NFL.

Former Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Jerrod Johnson is one of DeMeco Ryans top assistants on the Houston Texans, helping to develop C.J. Stroud into one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL as a rookie.

Now, according to multiple reports, other NFL teams are beginning to take notice.

According to reports, the New Orleans Saints have requested an interview with Johnson for their recently vacated offensive coordinator position.

The position was recently held by Pete Carmichael, who was fired at the end of the regular season. That said, Johnson may want to weigh his options before jumping to another job.

The Texans are also in danger of losing their own offensive coordinator, Bobby Slowik, who has become one of the hottest candidates for open head coaching positions across the league.

And should Slowik indeed land a job as a head coach, Johnson could be a logical choice to replace him as an internal candidate who is already intimately familiar with the offensive personnel.

Obviously, Johnson is not the most experienced coaching candidate available, starting his coaching career in 2017 as a part of the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship.

He then eventually landed his first assistant job with the Colts as an offensive quality control coach in 2020, before becoming an assistant QB coach with the Vikings in 2022.

That said, he has obviously impressed with his development of Stroud and will be a rising name to watch this offseason.

Whether or not that ends up being in New Orleans, Houston, or somewhere else remains to be seen.
