Kicker Liam Padron Announces Commitment to Texas A&M
Liam Padron declared his verbal commitment to the Aggies on Friday afternoon, revealing the news through X.
Padron, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound kicker, represents Bartram Trail High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Despite attracting interest from Syracuse, Appalachian State, and Troy, Padron ultimately committed to the Aggies.
His decision was validated in the U.S. Army Bowl on Jan. 6, where Padron's talent shone brightly. With a crucial 43-yard field goal and two successful extra points from 33 yards each, he played a pivotal role in securing a 31-28 victory for the West team, showcasing his reliability under pressure.
Padron's performance underscores his potential to make a significant impact at the collegiate level. His ability to deliver when it matters most highlights his value as a reliable kicker. With a proven track record of success, Padron's commitment to the Aggies signals a promising addition to their roster, bolstering their chances for future success on the gridiron.
Recently, the Aggies also made another addition to the special teams through the transfer portal. Former Georgia placekicker Jared Zirkel will join Texas A&M in 2024, bringing his big leg and championship experience to College Station (TX). With one year of eligibility remaining, Zirkel's transfer adds depth to the Aggies' kicking game under the leadership of head coach Mike Elko.

While Randy Bond is expected to maintain his role as the Aggies' starting kicker, Jared Zirkel provides a seamless plug-and-play solution for kickoffs. Bond, who faced challenges multiple times during the 2023 season, will encounter new competition this offseason. However, Zirkel's expertise primarily lies as a kickoff specialist.
