Aggies Urging Fans To Prepare For Heat Waves In Season Opener Against New Mexico
COLLEGE STATION -- As Texas A&M prepares for kickoff Saturday night against New Mexico inside its locker room, flocks of fans will head to tailgates to partake in pregame rituals before the gates open at Kyle Field.Β
While the hope is that 2023 will bring record-setting numbers to A&M's offense, the state of Texas has faced record-setting heat waves throughout the summer. Saturday will be no different as the National Weather Service predicts clear skies and temperatures nearing 100 degrees before kickoff at 6 p.m.Β
To ensure those in attendance avoid medical concerns, A&M has urged fans to stay hydrated throughout the week and on Saturday while preparing for the start of the regular season. Fans can bring up to a gallon of water into Kyle Field, so long as it comes in an unopened, clear container.
Kyle Field, which seats over 102,000 people, also has made an effort to provide water accessibility throughout the stadium both before kickoff and during the game. Per an announcement released by the A&M Sports and Information staff, the stadium will have over 187,000 water bottles available for purchase and will feature water refill stations in sections 122, 126, 132, 233, 235, 241, 334, 401 and 408.
A&M has encouraged fans to wear loose clothing, bring sunblock and wear protective eyewear to avoid the dangers of the sun. Fans are also motivated to wear hats to protect the top of their heads.Β
The Aggies, led by sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman, will look to build off their 38-23 upset over No. 5 LSU in 2022. Last season, A&M finished 5-7, marking its first losing season since 2008.
