LOOK: Aggies QB Conner Weigman Signs NIL Deal with Cotton Holdings
When the Texas A&M Aggies open their 2023-24 campaign at home against the New Mexico Lobos, all eyes will be on No. 15 Conner Weigman.
Entering this season, the rising sophomore — whether he likes it or not — will be put under the microscope for his on-field performance. Passer rating, composure in the pocket and even his postgame interviews will be talked about at great lengths when it comes to why the Aggies are performing the way they are.
Normally, that isn't the best thing for a young starter. The added attention tends to increase pressure and can certainly affect a player negatively. There is a bit of good news to that, however, because now, when Weigman is put under the microscope, there will be a small Cotton Holdings logo there, too.
The Aggies' potential starter signed an NIL deal with the Houston-based disaster relief company on Tuesday, adding another level to his city roots. Weigman himself hails from Cypress, having committed to the Aggies back in early 2021 for the 2022 class.
While the Houston connection certainly made the partnership more enticing, Weigman benefitted from Cotton Holdings' previous relationship with Texas A&M as a whole.
“Cotton’s relationship with Texas A&M is one with a lot of history,” Jeff Erler, Chief Legal Officer of Cotton Holdings said in a company release. “Cotton is proud to have many current and former Aggies among our employee ranks, and we have partnered with A&M many times through the years to provide our full suite of services when they’ve needed a helping hand.”
Per the release, Cotton has delivered services such as water damage recovery, emergency disaster response and temporary facilities to keep the campus and local businesses open for students and the community of Texas A&M — a partnership set to continue for years to follow after the company signed a new deal with the university.
Weigman's personal NIL deal came as an added bonus for Cotton Holdings, as the company not only has a new deal with the Aggies overall, but a more personal relationship with one of their top players for the next couple of seasons.
“Conner Weigman is such an exciting, dynamic player, who shares Cotton’s passion for teamwork,” Erler said. “We’re excited to support Conner and the Texas Aggies and cannot wait to see what this season has in store.”
Part of the deal included Cotton Holdings becoming a presenting sponsor for Texas A&M's annual Southwest Classic matchup with the Arkansas Razorbacks in addition to multiple Kyle Field advertisements.
So, Cotton Holdings will be around for at least the next few years in Aggieland — as will Conner Weigman. And with the two now partnered together, Weigman has a real opportunity to make as big of a difference off of the field as he does on it.
Welcome to the Conner Weigman Cotton Holdings era.
